Plantar Warts
Warts on your feet
 (Verruca Pedis)

Picture
Plantar warts are hard, grainy growths that usually appear on the heels or balls of your feet, areas that feel the most pressure. This pressure also may cause plantar warts to grow inward beneath a hard, thick layer of skin (callus).

Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The virus enters your body through tiny cuts, breaks or other weak spots on the bottom of your feet.

Most plantar warts aren't a serious health concern and may not require treatment. But plantar warts can cause discomfort or pain. If self-care treatments for plantar warts don't work, you may want to see your Chiropodist to have them removed.

Treatment for plantar warts can be a frustrating and long process if not done properly.  Commonly patients have been trying over the counter products, and painful freezing procedures with no success.

Your Chiropodist/foot specialist will review with you the treatment options for your situation.  All treatments are performed in office by the Chiropodist.

If you think you may have a wart, or are prone to getting them, make an appointment to see the Chiropodist/Foot specialist at (613) 440-3839 to get treatment.  Let us help you with your wart removal process.

Plantar Wart Treatment

At Barrhaven Foot Care, we are now offering a brand new treatment for surface skin lesions. This state-of-the-art technology is called Swift® microwave therapy and it is an effective method to remove stubborn warts by treating their root cause. With no downtime and minimal discomfort, we are excited to offer Swift® microwave therapy to help you get relief!

PLANTAR WARTS; A COMMON AND STUBBORN VIRAL INFECTION
“Plantar” means “Of the sole” in Latin. Unlike other types of warts, plantar warts are typically quite painful as the pressure from walking and standing forces them to grow into your skin. Like all warts, Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus. Underneath the skin, the wart can have finger-like roots that reach down and grow, making them very difficult to treat effectively from the surface.

WHAT IS SWIFT & HOW DOES IT WORK?
Swift is a cutting-edge, FDA-approved technology that is highly effective for removing plantar warts. Plantar warts form on the heels or balls of your feet and are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). These types of warts grow into the foot, making them difficult to treat from the surface.
Swift addresses this by delivering low-dose microwave energy through a probe that targets the root of the problem — the underlying HPV virus. By stimulating a natural immune response in the body, the microwave energy prompts the immune system to attack the HPV virus, therefore eliminating the wart. We like to say that we’re addressing the root cause; NOT the symptoms.

TREATMENT PLANS
Swift treatment averages 3-visits, with each treatment lasting 5 minutes. The treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart to match the body’s immune cycle. Between visits, the wart will gradually shrink as your immune system goes to work.
Since Swift does not break the surface of the skin, no bandages are required and you can go about your day as normal after each session. Our specialist will discuss when, and how many, follow-up visits should be scheduled based on your specific case. Our team will carefully evaluate your progress during each treatment.
IS SWIFT PAINFUL? There is minor discomfort associated with this treatment. Pain varies between patients, but most people feel some discomfort for 2-3 seconds as tissue temperatures are elevated. No anesthesia is needed and any pain immediately subsides after the probe is removed. There is very little post-procedural pain and no need for at-home care!

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM SWIFT?
Swift can benefit anyone who is suffering from warts and is looking for the most effective solution to remove them. If you are concerned that you may have a lesion and want to take care of it, we will help diagnose you and see if Swift is the right treatment for you.
Traditional treatment of warts involves biweekly visits and daily medication application at home, which can be both time consuming, expensive, and sometimes painful.  Swift therapy cuts down on time to resolution, eliminates home medication use, tends to be more cost efficient for the patient, and is relatively painless.

WHEN YOU SHOULD COME TO SEE US!
It’s important to visit Barrhaven Foot Care if you suspect or feel that you have a plantar wart and are seeking removal. The longer you wait to seek treatment, the more likely the wart is to persist.
