Bunions

Bunions are bony bumps that form on the joint at the base of your big toe and can be painful, especially in tighter shoes. Their causes can come from genetics or birth deformities, physical stress or foot injuries in your feet and joints, over pronation, or a medical condition, such as arthritis. When your big toe is pushing against your next toe or the shape of your foot is putting too much pressure on the joint, this forces it to enlarge and stick out.

Some of the symptoms of bunions include:
  • A swelling, redness, or soreness at the base of the toe
  • A bump or bulge at the base of the big toe
  • Corns or calluses where your toes overlap
  • Pain – can be recurring or persistent
  • Restricted big toe movement if you have arthritis
If you feel any of these symptoms, it might be time to call us and get your foot examined. We will be able to rule out other issues or foot problems and let you know what can be done to treat your bunions.
